Sleeping residents possibly attacked with bear spray

May 30, 2016 | 6:22 PM

Battlefords RCMP responded to a report early Monday morning, May 30, of a resident getting sprayed with a substance that might have been bear spray through their open window.

Insp. John Sutherland said the RCMP got the call at 2:20 a.m. this morning and responded to the residence on St. Laurent Drive. According to the report, the resident was sleeping with the window open when they were sprayed. He said officers don’t currently have any suspects.

Sutherland said the problem with crimes involving bear spray is that it’s easily purchasable over the counter.

“You have a whole bunch of people running around with bear spray and if they decide they’re walking along with a can of it and they see an open window it’s pretty hard to control,” he said.
