Bus stop benches coming to North Battleford

May 26, 2016 | 6:00 AM

You won’t have to stand waiting for the bus much longer.

Just months after the expanded public transportation service was introduced to North Battleford, the city has decided to install benches at some bus stops.

City planner Devin MacAulay said in addition to providing comfort for people waiting for buses, the benches will also display advertisements to generate revenue for the city.

“There’s often long wait times between a bus arriving, and being able to sit and wait for the bus is much more comfortable, especially for some of our senior riders,” he said.

Riders are being encouraged to arrive at bus stops early, so benches to wait at is another incentive to getting there early.

The city will be partnering with Creative Outdoor Advertising for the project. It will be a 10-year agreement for the company to install the benches and maintain them.

They’re currently looking at installing 20 benches throughout the city and MacAuley said they would be at busy stops throughout the city, not in front of people’s houses.

He said hopefully the concrete can be poured and the benches installed by fall of this year.
