Weather should help contain fire over weekend: province

May 20, 2016 | 12:54 PM

The changing wind direction and potential showers will help prevent the wildfire from Alberta spreading into Saskatchewan.

Winds from the east are blowing smoke away from the province making the fire more visible and easier to fight according to Duane Mckay Director of Emergency Management and Fire Safety. There are currently six fires in Saskatchewan. Four are contained and two are active, but aren’t threatening towns or cities.

Northwest communities, like La Loche and Cole Bay, no longer have smoke concerns. The only issue, according to Mckay, are the dry conditions in the area. He is asking people to adhere to all fire bans. Residents should check if fire bans are in place in their communities or visiting communities.

Residents are urged to report wildfires to 911 immediately.
