Work ongoing for Battleford community planning

May 17, 2016 | 5:00 PM

Battleford Town Council is looking to improve the community with a new planning structure, improved roads and water lines as well as a new IT setup for the town server.

“This work has been ongoing for six to eight months with Crosby Hannah and its associates from Saskatoon,” Mayor Derek Mahon said.

The criteria of the town community plan is up for public view on the town website and Mahon said Battleford residents are invited to voice their opinions publicly when council reconvenes on June 20th.

The new zoning bylaw which outlines a review of various permits regarding perimeters and property boundaries is also relevant to the community.

“It is a bylaw which looks out for the maintenance of the town as well as looks out for our surrounding neighbours,” Chief Administrative Officer John Enns-Wind said.

There will also be more traffic holdups within the coming days as the town continues the cleaning and maintenance of the streets. Mahon says people can expect delays as the week progresses with the Second Ave. paving project, especially along the Fourth Ave. routes of town, stretching from 22nd St to Seventh Ave.

“(With) the sewer and water replacement project as well as the Second Ave. paving program we’ll be expecting some delays. We just want everybody to acknowledge the detours and delays and to watch out for kids and workers out walking and to watch out for the safety of everyone in general,” Mahon said.
