Hazardous waste collection available for the Battlefords area this weekend

Apr 29, 2016 | 12:00 PM

If you have any products that are considered hazardous and don’t know where to dispose of them, do not throw them in the garbage.

The City of North Battleford is holding a hazardous waste collection on Saturday April. 30 at the Public Works Shop across from Home Hardware in North Battleford.

“It’s important that we dispose of certain items properly,” Suzanne Abe, communication and marketing manager for the City of North Battleford, said. “We don’t want these materials in our landfills, in the ground and especially not into our ground water.”

The following materials will be collected this weekend:

  • Aerosols i.e. hairspray, bug spray
  • All kinds of cleaners including household cleaners
  • Fuels
  • Poisons i.e. non herbicides and garden chemicals
  • Solvents i.e. paint thinners

These materials will not be collected and can be taken to the other suggested locations:

  • Paint can be taken to Sarcan Recycling
  • Electronics can be taken to Sarcan Recycling
  • Automotive batteries and alkaline batteries
  • Used oil and antifreeze can be taken to Waste Management
  • Contact City Hall to dispose of lightbulbs.

The collection will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is completely free of charge.
