Missing man originally from the Battlefords found dead

Remains found in Alberta are confirmed to be a missing man born and raised in the Battlefords.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit said bones found in a wooded area near Innisfail, April 5, belong to Dwayne Demkiw, 42. Demkiw was last seen May 31, 2015 leaving his workplace in Edmonton.

At the time, his father Eugene Demkiw told battlefordsNOW he had received a phone call later that morning.

“A constable from Calgary phoned me up and they found his car ablaze,” Demkiw recalled.

He said his son had spent much of his life in the Battlefords. Following his disappearance his family spread posters throughout the area hoping for a break in the case.
