Two people are dead after a small private plane crashed in the mountains of southeastern British Columbia.

The Transportation Safety Board says a single-engine Rockwell 112B took off from Kelowna on Monday morning heading to Wynyard, Sask.

A few hours later, another aircraft picked up a signal from an emergency locater beacon between Nakusp and Revelstoke, near Galena Lodge in a heli-skiing area.

The wreckage of the plane was found in the snow along with the remains of the two people who were on board.
