Election 2016: Advanced poll turnout much higher than 2011

Apr 4, 2016 | 7:08 AM

Thousands of people in the province just couldn’t wait until Monday to cast their vote, instead heading to the advance polls.

In the five days of advance polls, 110,716 people voted. That’s about an eighth of the approximate 815,000 eligible Saskatchewan voters, and a 66 per cent increase from advance polls in 2011.

But could this mean a higher voter turnout? In the last election only 66 per cent of voters cast a ballot, one of the lowest turnouts we’ve had in decades.
