After being found guilty of murdering his friend in 2010, Daniel Smith has been sentenced to life in prison.

Smith was handed the sentence Wednesday March 30, 2016 at Prince Albert’s Court of Queen’s Bench.

He is ineligible for parole for 12 years. A lifetime ban on weapons was also laid on Smith.

Smith stood trial in January for the murder of Roger Byer in 2010. The dramatic trial saw Smith accused of shooting Byer during a transaction gone wrong, by his then girlfriend. When Smith took the stand he claimed it was his girlfriend who shot Byer, not him.
