No all-candidate forum has all candidates

Neither of the two groups planning all candidate forums next week has all candidates confirmed.

The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce All Candidates Forum is scheduled for Tuesday Mar. 22 but organizers are unsure which candidates are confirmed.

“We’re still waiting for confirmation from some, but I anticipate that we will likely have three of the four candidates,” Linda Machniak, executive director with the Chamber of Commerce, said.

On Mar. 23, the night after the chamber’s planned event, CUPE 5111 is hosting an All Candidate Forum at North Battleford’s Dekker Centre.

“We have three candidates confirmed,” Perry Turton, an organizer of the event, said. “We have Gopher Dexter with the Liberals, Rob Feist with the NDP, Joshua Hunt with the Green Party, and we have yet to hear back from Herb Cox with the SaskParty.”

The two forums vary in structure, with the Chamber event requiring written questions submitted to a panel, or emailed/faxed to the chamber beforehand, while CUPE’s event will be an open mic, allowing the audience to address candidates directly and spontaneously.
