Big guns brought out to help save wetlands

Mar 7, 2016 | 9:34 AM

Eight acres of wetlands are lost every day and Ducks Unlimited Canada is trying to preserve the wet lands and animals inhabiting them.

The North Battleford chapter held its 35th annual auction and raffle fundraiser dinner at the Gold Ridge Centre Saturday, Feb. 5.

The live auction made $5,200 while the silent auction was in the neighborhood of $1,500. Hunting guns, highlighted by a Beretta shotgun, were the hot ticket item for the 160 people how attended.

Conservation program specialist Kelly Rempel said there’s a reason they don’t have concrete numbers yet. “Our financials are just too complex to make a guesstimates. Charitable organizations like us don’t want to have gross revenue reported because there are many costs that reduce that number.
