A man well-known in Saskatchewan for his love of sports has passed away.

David Ash of Regina’s Dash Tours died after a long battle with cancer. He was 61.

Along with giving tours to sporting and music events, Ash is known for his days being Gainer the Gopher for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Edmonton Oilers Superfan. He also gave his giant flag to Sydney Crosby to wave at the Vancouver Olympics.

“(It was) an Olympic moment for me when he grabbed that flag from me in the stands and paraded it around the ice symbolically as if it was a Stanley Cup but on a world Olympic stage. It was quite a thrill,” Ash said in 2010.
