UPDATE: First court appearance set for driver charged in fatal crash

An Alberta man is accused of driving while impaired leading to Tuesday’s deadly crash, Feb. 23, outside of North Battleford.

Harry Weiss, 64, of Barrhead, Alberta appeared in court for the first time Wednesday, Feb. 24. RCMP said he is charged with impaired operation of a vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

He remains in custody while he waits for his next court appearance Thurs. Feb. 25. at 9:30 a.m.

Weiss was arrested Tuesday after the semi-truck he was driving slammed into an SUV, killing the driver and only occupant. Police allege Weiss drove through the centre guardrail, into oncoming traffic and eventually into the SUV stopped at a red light.
