Slippery road conditions leave travelers stranded

Feb 19, 2016 | 11:33 AM

This morning’s snow storm, Feb. 19, is creating hazardous road conditions. Lloyd David who was driving from Saskatoon to Edmonton stopped in North Battleford and talked about the conditions.

“It’s horrible out there. I’m going to stay here at a hotel overnight,” he said.

By 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19 all weather warnings had ended but snow had accumulated on top of the ice created by the freezing rain. Callers Friday morning reported very hazardous conditions on Highway 4 south of the Battlefords.

5 cm of snow fell in the Battlefords area.

The provincial Highway Hotline is still not recommending travel in the Battlefords, Lloydminster, Biggar, Radisson, St. Walburg areas as far north as Meadow Lake on Highway 4. The snow has stopped but plows have not gone out to remove the snow and ice.

The power is still out in parts of the Battlefords and surrounding area. As of 2:20 p.m. SaskPower tweeted there was no estimated time of repair for customers in the Denholm, rural North Battleford, Brada and surrounding rural areas.
