Freezing rain leaves very slick roads

Feb 19, 2016 | 4:56 AM

Freezing rain followed by snow has created havoc on roads along the Yellowhead corridor.

By 10:30 a.m. Friday all warnings had ended. But snow was accumulating on top of the ice that was left behind by the freezing rain. Callers Friday morning reported very hazardous conditions on Highway 4 south of the Battlefords.

As much as 5 cm of snow was expected to accumulate in the Battlefords area.

The Highway Hotline was not recommending travel in the Battlefords, Lloydminster, Biggar, Radisson, St. Walburg areas as far north as Meadow Lake on Highway 4. Conditions were described as icy and slippery in places, with loose, swirling, and drifting snow along with reduced visibility.
