Local kids learn the value of volunteerism

Feb 10, 2016 | 5:12 PM

Community Service Fair day at John Paul II Collegiate aims to help students find out more about local volunteer opportunities.

Since students are required to complete 10 hours of community service, the school welcomed roughly a dozen local organizations who’d welcome students to their organizations.

School Chaplain Roxanne Stynsky organized the fair and spoke about volunteerism being a major focus of the school.

“We really stress to our students and our staff – who are very involved – that community service is a way to give back. It’s a very Christian-like thing to do. It’s an opportunity for students to engage in positive interaction and relationships with our community,” Stynsky said.
