North Battleford girl dances her way to Telemiracle

Feb 7, 2016 | 7:31 AM

Hopes weren’t very high when Tifa Dezic’s mother Twilla Gagne read the audition letter from Telemiracle.

“At first we thought I didn’t get in because how it started out. It said ‘thank you for auditioning for Telemiracle,’ so I didn’t think I got in.”

Her mom described reading the next sentence.

“Then it said ‘we are thrilled to invite you to be a part of our celebration line-up.’ We both screamed and jumped up and down as tears rolled down our faces. I remember saying, you made it! you made it! While Tifa had the biggest most beautiful smile on her face.

“I’m a real proud mama.”

This opportunity almost didn’t happen for Tifa. She was going to audition with two others but it didn’t work out. After starting her choreography and changing songs about six times there wasn’t much time left.

“I was starting to get nervous because there was only five days left,” Gagne said. “It was the Monday when she came to me and said this is my song. She did a dance to Kesha’s Die Young and said that’s it.”

Tifa choreographed a dance for the full three minute and twenty-one second song in two days.

She became emotional when asked about how proud her father was of her.

“It’s really tough, I miss him a lot. Sometimes I just cry for him and he never comes home so I always call him and say dad please come home.”

Her father is a driller/pusher on the rigs in Lloydminster and works 12 days on and four days off. He doesn’t get much time to come home, but Gagne boasts “he is very proud.”

Tifa goes to dance classes four days a week and on Friday’s dances four times in one day, but her mom says it doesn’t stop there. “She dances every second of the day she’s home. Many days my furniture gets moved around and I just have to watch her dance.”

Performing at Telemiracle also requires Tifa to do her own fundraising for the Kinsman Foundation, which is already in the works. “We are doing a draw on Mar. 4 just before we take off for Telemiracle. We’re doing a bingo on Feb. 25 at Sweet Grass Reserve at the Old Hall and my friend Allison Tar is doing a fundraiser for us through Stella and Dot where her commission is going to be donated to Tifa.”

Tifa will perform her dance at Telemiracle March 6 between 2 and 4 p.m. If you’d like to see Tifa dance watch the video below.
