Drivers are being urged to pay attention in school zone as the Battleford RCMP will be watching.

In a release sent out, the detachment is reminding people that while school buses have their lights and stop arm deployed in operation it is illegal to pass.

There is also designated no parking areas in school zones to prevent traffic from interfering with buses, and police are reminding drivers to respect those areas.

Fines for passing a school bus with lights and stop arm active start at $360, while failing to observe a no parking area in a school zone will earn you a $100 ticket.

Police say it's all part of an effort to protect kids.
