A 70-year-old man has been charged by RCMP after causing a multiple car crash on Highway 17 north of Lloydminster on Monday.

The drivers of two vehicles were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 70-year-old Lloydminister man has been charged with driving without due care and attention.

Maidstone RCMP said four cars were involved. Three collided, and a fourth tried to avoid the crash by driving into the ditch.

After investigating, police determined an SUV was struck from behind by a pickup truck while trying to turn at the intersection. The SUV veered into the side of another truck coming from the opposite direction.

The highway was shut down Monday between 6:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of township road 514 and Highway 17 north.
